Gunplay Explains Meaning of Swastika Tattoo

The wild MMG rhyme slinger talks the controversial ink on his back…From his name to his drug use in music videos, Gunplay can be a magnet for controversy. Another point of discussion has been his swastika tattoo, though he recently explained the message behind the ink.
“It’s just my symbol of genocide to the bullshit,” the Florida native told Pigeons and Planes in an interview. “Mass murdering the bullshit. Too much bullshit out here. I came to Nazi that shit. I came to Hitler that motherfucker. Put all the fake motherfuckers in the gas chamber and gas your fuck ass. That’s what I’m here to do. So niggas better walk light around a nigga. I’ma show niggas. I can talk but I’ma show niggas. All that fake shit, I’ma call that shit out and I’ma stomp that shit out. I got a mission. Just playing the game for the meantime.”
The long-haired, high-energy rhymer also said that he find inspiration from another controversial figure, 2Pac. “His shit was always a message,” he explained. “He was always flossing in his shit but he always had a message in there. He’ll always drop a jewel on you. He’ll be flashy and all that but then he’ll drop a jewel on you, four bars down. I’m just studying all that, watching the blueprint of success with Rozay and building the empire and following the blueprint of some greats.”
In addition to his ink, influences, desire to work with Big K.R.I.T., and recent Def Jam solo deal, Gunplay also spoke on his thoughts on Rick Ross’ album, God Forgives, I Don’t, which hits stores on July 31 and leaked online yesterday. “That shit’s crazy,” he promised. “Super dope. I don’t know if it’s going to top Teflon Don…Let me see. I don’t know ’cause Teflon Don was a gem. I’m not going to lie, that shitted on everything around the time it dropped. Everything going on, they just embodied that shit, man. It was a great body of work. But this new one might be the best one yet.”
Gunplay is currently working on upcoming releases, Bogota (his next mixtape) and Medellin (solo debut album).—kelvin nkya

Ice Cube and DJ Drama Hosts Coors Light’s Coldest MC Competition: Show Recap

The MC competition was held with various rap legends in attendance, plus a live performance from FabolousIce Cube has flourished the past 25 years by being able to seamlessly multi-task. He’s a father, legendary MC, actor, producer, and lately we’ve all been seeing him as a spokesperson for Coors Light.
Last night in New York, Cube and DJ Drama hosted the company’s “Coldest MC” competition at Irving Plaza.
Finalists from New York, New Orleans, Charlotte, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Baltimore converged on the stage and let their skills be shown. But before a winner was announced, Cube transitioned into another role: Microphone Kingpin.
The South Central native—dressed in a black tee-shirt, blue jeans and black Chuck Taylors—came out to rock.
Cube leveled the audience with “Natural Born Killaz” then dug back even further into his catalog for “Check Yourself.” Cube’s short set ended with “Today Was a Good Day.”
“A nigga still got it!” Cube said with a smile as the audience applauded.
In the end, it was B-More’s Felony Fame taking home the “Coldest MC” title. The show wasn’t over there however with Fabolous performing a live set for the audience.
Celebrities including Busta Rhymes and French Montana were also in attendance to enjoy the festivities. —kelvin nkya

Wiz Khalifa Calls Lola Monroe The Best Female Rapper

Wiz says his Taylor Gang first lady is iller than any other female rhyme slinger around…

The rap game’s current landscape is filled with talented female MCs such as Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks to name a few. Yet, Wiz Khalifa thinks he has the best rapstress around in former eye candy model, turned rapper and first lady of his Taylor Gang label, Lola Monroe.
When asked if she was the “Iggy, Nicki-type Taylor Gang member” during a recent interview, Wiz responded by saying:
“She’s iller than any female artist I’ve ever heard in my life. She’s so much better than any female…just her lyrical ability.”
With no intent to personally diss the other ladies in the game, Wiz just simply put out the fact that he believes he’s found the next best thing.
Monroe made her own personal statement about her record deal, talking to XXLMag.com last October.
“Shout out to Wiz and we’re just getting it in,” Monroe told XXLMag.com at the time. “It’s all about that work. Wiz is an individual that’s all about his business and that matches everything on my side. When he reached out, he said, I feel as though our movements represent the same thing, so I want you to rep Taylor Gang. I agreed. It’s only right.”
Lola Monroe is an Ethiopian native, who later moved to Washington D.C. In 2006, she took XXL’s Eye Candy of the Year title, and in 2011, signed to be Taylor Gang’s first and only female rapper.—kelvin nkya
