Lil Wayne Wanted Amy Winehouse for Tha Carter IV, Producer Says

Producer MegaMan, who masterminded a track of the same name for Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV album, recently told Hoodclickerz, that “MegaMan” wasn’t the only production he did for Wayne’s latest set. Before “Megaman” was even created, he submitted a beat that Weezy approved and planned on getting Amy Winehouse, on before her untimely death.
“He actually had a record from me already that was supposed to be on the album that was suppose to feature Amy Winehouse, but, it didn’t go through,” the Toronto, Canada, beatsmith says. “It was a track I had. It had a reference on it from Liz Rodriguez — she’s a songwriter signed to Universal. She did a reference for me and Wayne heard it, he liked it and wanted to put Amy [Winehouse] on it. But, it didn’t go through and I don’t know the details as to why.”
The other fun fact about that particular beat is that it wasn’t even meant for Lil Wayne, period. In fact, he created it originally for Jay-Z, Kanye West or Lupe Fiasco, he says. But, when Wayne decided to use it, 25-year-old Megaman says he learned a valuable lesson.
“I stop making beats for artists based on what they’ve done and started doing stuff I wanna do and go with that,” he says. “Artists don’t want to come out with whatever they came out with already. They want something new and they trust you to know what that is.”
MegaMan is currently in the lab working on production for Drake, Birdman and Young Jeezy, among others.—kelvin nkya
