If you think Rick Ross
is running scared, think again. On Monday night, the Maybach Music boss
hit 99 Jamz in his native Miami and openly addressed the controversy
surrounding his canceled MMG Tour.
"I canceled the rest of the tour due to the promoter, he wasn't really handlin' his business," Rozay explained ron ai.
According to Ross, after concert promoter Shawn Gee canceled three of
his shows without notifying him, the Miami MC pulled the plug on the
rest of his dates. "I just felt like that was some power that I needed
to take away from homey, so I canceled the rest of the dates that I had
arranged with him."
There were reports that Ross had ended his run
due to threats he was getting online from a street gang known as
Gangster Disciples. In a YouTube clip, members of the organization,
wearing bandanas to cover their faces, cited grievances with Ross for
name-dropping their chairman Larry Hoover on the chorus of his 2010
single "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)." In the video, two gang members
urged the rapper to come to the table and settle their differences,
careful not to make any direct threats on his life or make any monetary
demands outright.
"Once they began to unravel, I shut it down.
Never was it due to any threats," Ross said in reference to three
canceled dates, before addressing the YouTube video directly. "Any dude
can stand in a crowd with 30 or 40 dudes and everybody real, everybody
trill, everybody 'bout that life, everybody gangsta. But when the
choppers come out, everybody fold."
Whatever the intent of the
gang members, the MMG head made it clear that he has no intentions of
backing down or falling victim to an extortion plot. "So if you
screamin', 'Cut a check, we need a check.' Ain't no checks gettin' cut.
Ain't never no checks gettin' cut. I don't play those games," he
responded. "I consider that extortion, we don't play like that.
In
his interview, Ross went on to show respect for the GD founder Larry
Hoover and talked about his most recent trip to Chicago, the birthplace
of the Gangster Disciples. "If I go to Chicago to handle my business
like I did, I have no problem goin' to North Carolina or South Carolina
where the ladies are brown skin, brown eyes, they got nice curls and
they make the best apple pie," he said before barking: "So don't ever
get it twisted, Ricky Rozay is a boss."
