Teams Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera suffered a loss on Tuesday night's (November 13) "The Voice" results show when Michaela Paige and Adriana Louise were eliminated from the NBC singing competition.
It's
the first pair of eliminations for the reality show since hitting the
race's coveted top 12 and marked a series high for the competition as
host Carson Daly announced that Monday night's episode received even
more of America's votes than the season two finale. In another twist for
this year's competition, Daly also revealed that every iTunes
contestant song download from the live shows from here on out will count
toward that artist's total vote tally.
Not only did Tuesday mark
the end of the road for two contestants, but also the beginning of a new
venture for coach Christina Aguilera, who just released her brand-new
album Lotus.
Just five minutes into the show, Aguilera and fellow coach Cee Lo took
to the stage to show off their pipes and some good energy on the pop
star's just-announced second single from the LP called "Make the World
Move."
The big-voiced diva sat on a white throne-looking chair as a
slew of dancers moved around her. With a fan in-hand, Aguilera belted
out the tune, throwing in her over-the-top notes as Cee Lo took the
backseat on a platform above her with a crystal-ball cane. Fancy that!
Turning the stage into a festive pink-and-white affair, the couple made
their way to the front of the stage in sync with the horn-heavy track
and closed the performance with a good ol' hug as a batch of pink
balloons fell from the ceiling.
Tuesday's elimination news began
with Daly announcing which contestants of the dozen were saved from the
chopping block, beginning with Bryan Keith (Team Adam) and Sylvia Yacoub
(Team Christina). It was less than an hour of tension as the host
announced saved contestants every commercial break, ending with the
lowest-voted for finalists: Michaela Paige and Adriana Louise.
"Thank
you for being everything that I could have wished for and more," Louise
told Xtina, as the pop star wiped a tear from her contestant's face.
Aguilera comforted the aspiring singer, saying, "At this point, you're
going to go beyond this show. This is only a moment in time that will
pass."
Paige also couldn't hold back tears for her judge Shelton
as she urged America to follow their dreams. Shelton commended her
talents, saying, "This is her first stab at this thing. She's going to
be a star. You're going to see her many times ... her big ol' mohawk is
going to be walking across the stage at the Grammys."
Three more
performances from coaches Cee Lo, Blake and musical guest Jason Aldean
also filled up the one-hour broadcast. With his rock-tinged single "The
Only Way I Know," Aldean took the stage in his traditional cowboy
fashion with guitar in tow and was joined by contestants Keith and Dez
Duron. And while Aldean kept his number pretty standard, Cee Lo dolled
himself up in a white Elvis-inspired outfit for a cover of the Bee Gee's
"Stayin' Alive." It wouldn't have been right to not include his team,
so his three-guy gang also worked some retro duds and played backup to
"The Voice" judge. Last was Blake Shelton, who jammed out to a feel-good
cover of Tom Cochrane's "Life Is a Highway" with his team.-kelvin nkya
